About us

QR Network is Australia’s leading rail infrastructure business, operating a 10,000 kilometre rail network serving the coal, bulk freight, passenger and intermodal transport markets in Queensland. Our aim is to attract the largest share of the land transport market to rail.

Capabilities

QR Network offers proven solutions and innovative approaches to meet rail transport requirements on our 10,000 kilometre network.

Our experts design and build reliable infrastructure, we forge partnerships across the supply chain and with governments and we smooth the way to transport your high-value assets where you want them, when you want them. Ours is a full-services transport solution.

Access

Our Access Undertaking was the first in Australia to define a regime for open access to rail infrastructure.  It defines the access process and ensures that we provide our rail network to all accredited rail operators.

We are constantly working to make this easier for our customers through a process we have perfected over years of  managing contracts worth billions of dollars. Our access model, now in its third renewal, is being copied across Australia.

For more information on the Access process, see the Access & regulation section.

Mike Carter at the Coal Rail Infrastructure Master Plan forum

Michael Carter, Executive General Manager QR Network, discusses the Coal Rail Infrastructure Master Plan with stakeholders at the discussion forum.

Master Plan

We pioneered the infrastructure master planning process, looking at market trends, customer expectations and capacity pressure points to identify critical projects for infrastructure improvements. From this information, we created a plan, agreed by all parties on the supply chain, which drives capacity development and enables everyone from the mines to the ports to better plan for the future.

The Coal Master Plan and Mount Isa Master Plan are available online.

Rail Manager

For 140 years, we have been committed to providing a safe, reliable and efficient rail network across the state of Queensland.  QR Network is an accredited rail manager, which includes holding the safety accreditation for the rail network.

We direct more than 180 million tonnes of freight and 60 million passenger journeys across our network every year from five control centres in Brisbane and key regional centres.   Our systems are constantly maintained and monitored to ensure a high standard of quality service is delivered every day.

We confirm this through a range of performance indicators that assure our customers are receiving the service they expect and deserve.
