About us

QR Network is Australia’s leading rail infrastructure business, operating a 10,000 kilometre rail network serving the coal, bulk freight, passenger and intermodal transport markets in Queensland. Our aim is to attract the largest share of the land transport market to rail.

Case studies

QR Network provides full-service transport solutions. The following case studies highlight our capabilities when designing and building reliable infrastructure.

Salisbury to Kuraby

QR Network’s award winning SEQIPRAIL program completed the $256 million Salisbury to Kuraby rail upgrade in 2008. This is one of 28 major projects in the $7 billion program SEQIPRAIL is undertaking to meet growing demand on the metropolitan passenger network.

Banoon Station on the Beenleigh/Gold Coast line was upgraded as part of the Salisbury to Kuraby project.

Paving the way for increased train services from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, the project included a third 9.5 kilometre track from Salisbury to Kuraby and upgrades to seven stations along the rail corridor, including Coopers Plains, Sunnybank and Runcorn.

The Salisbury to Kuraby third track project was one of the biggest infrastructure projects to be completed in South East Queensland in the past decade. Improvements have been made to ensure the stations meet Australian Disability Standards with the addition of lifts and easily accessible car parks.

SEQIPRAIL earned the prestigious Premier’s Award for Leadership Excellence for its innovative delivery of the infrastructure program.

More information on the Salisbury to Kuraby third track project is availabe on the SEQIPRail website.

Bauhinia

QR Network works closely with its customer and supply chain partners to deliver infrastructure that facilitates their rail transport needs.  This can often mean designing spur lines to link their mines to our rail systems.

The $240 million Bauhinia Regional Rail Project was the longest spur line built in Queensland since 1983, to support Xstrata Coal’s Rolleston coal mine.

More detailed information is available on the Bauhinia case study page.

Did you know?

Road produces approximately 4.5 times more CO2 equivalent (green house gas emissions) than rail.

Rail is a much safer form of transport than road (road has approximately 40 times the amount of transport fatalities than rail).

Queensland’s vast rail network is owned by QR and supported by state of the art infrastructure and systems. The rail network is valued at some $AUD6 billion.

On 1 September 2008, QR Network Pty Ltd became a stand alone subsidiary company of QR Ltd.

The Australian rail industry is open to competition and in Queensland, rail operators can apply to use QR Network’s 10,000km of narrow gauge, standard gauge and dual gauge track.
