Performance

Keeping track of our performance is fundamental to our business and to ensuring that we are meeting our customers' expectations. We use a number of measures to evaluate our efforts and the quality of service we deliver.

Coal performance measures
Performance

All performance numbers shown are our monthly performance as a percentage of our targets.

The performance measure shown on the home page for Coal is train paths. This shows the capacity taken in our coal systems.

All numbers shown are our monthly performance as a percentage of our targets. These include train paths contracted as well as growth targets.

Freight performance measures

Performance for the Freight systems is shown in Gross Train Kilometres (GTKs), a measure based on tonnage and distance travelled.

All numbers shown are our monthly performance as a percentage of our targets. These include GTKs contracted as well as growth targets.

South East Queensland performance measures

The on-time performance statistic is a performance figure measured during peak AM and PM periods.   The AM peak period includes services commencing after 6.00am and arriving at Central before 9.00am, and the PM peak includes services that depart Central after 3.30pm and arrive at their terminating destination before 6.30pm.

Interstate performance measures

Performance for the Standard Gauge line and Brisbane Multi-User Terminal is shown through Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) moved through the system. One TEU represents the cargo capacity of a standard shipping container 20 feet long and 8 feet wide. A 40-foot container is two TEUs.

All numbers shown are our monthly performance as a percentage of our targets. These include TEUs contracted as well as growth targets.

Did you know?

Rail is a much safer form of transport than road (road has approximately 40 times the amount of transport fatalities than rail).

Road produces approximately 4.5 times more CO2 equivalent (green house gas emissions) than rail.

The Australian rail industry is open to competition and in Queensland, rail operators can apply to use QR Network’s 10,000km of narrow gauge, standard gauge and dual gauge track.

On 1 September 2008, QR Network Pty Ltd became a stand alone subsidiary company of QR Ltd.

Queensland’s vast rail network is owned by QR and supported by state of the art infrastructure and systems. The rail network is valued at some $AUD6 billion.
